Challenge rooms: play the same life as your friends

Game context, not financial advice. This article explains how things work inside Quidsmith, a personal-finance simulation game. The numbers are illustrative and the model is simplified for play. It is not personal financial advice. For decisions about your own money, speak to a regulated adviser.

A challenge room drops you and your friends into the exact same Quidsmith life: the same starting position, the same economy, the same events, year for year. Everyone plays it solo, and the room ranks you against each other on a private board. It is the friendly, competitive way to settle who really is the better investor.

Why the same world is the whole point

Quidsmith is full of luck: a market crash, a surprise bill, a lottery line that lands. On the global hiscores that luck averages out across thousands of players. Among a handful of friends it would not, so a room fixes it in place. Because everyone in the room plays an identical world, nobody can blame the dice. The ranking is purely relative, which is exactly what makes the host picking the world fair: whatever they choose, you all get the same one.

Creating a room

Creating a room is a supporter feature (hosting other people is the one thing in Quidsmith with a real ongoing cost, so it sits with membership). A Supporter can host one room at a time; a Premium Supporter can host three. You have two ways to build one:

Whichever you pick, the room is locked to that one world, and every person who joins gets it.

Inviting your friends

Joining a room is free for anyone with an account. Every room has a short join code and a shareable invite link. Send either one: a friend opening the link, or typing the code (it is not case-sensitive), lands straight in the room. They sign in if they have not already, and the invite carries them the rest of the way.

Playing and the board

Once you are in, you play the room's world like any other Quidsmith life, from age 25 to 100. When your run ends, it submits itself to the room automatically: there is nothing to upload. The room keeps its own private board, separate from the global hiscores, so how your friends do never touches your public rank and yours never touches theirs. As host, you can remove a room when the contest is over, which clears its board with it.

It is friendly, never pay-to-win

Paying to host buys hosting capacity, not an advantage. Rooms are private boards that only the people you invite ever see, and nothing about a room feeds the global hiscores. A Supporter and a free player who join the same room compete on exactly equal terms, because they are playing exactly the same life.

In the game

Open Challenge rooms from the main menu, create a world, and copy the invite link to your group chat. Everyone plays the same life on their own time, and the private board shows who came out ahead. It is the natural home for a "same starting salary, who has the most at 100" bet.
